Down for Dance is looking for student volunteers to assist with their weekly dance classes! Down for Dance is a non-profit dance program for individuals with Down Syndrome. Classes are offered in Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa. They ask that students are 14 years old and up. Dance experience and/or experience working with individuals with Down Syndrome is helpful, but experience is not required. Project Giving Light is a non-profit organization that celebrates the birthdays of underserved youth and foster children throughout the state of California. We celebrate these kids by giving them personalized birthday boxes and celebrations where they feel seen, known and loved.
Project Giving Light partners alongside shelters, homes and schools with the goal of filling these kids's lives with joy and light amidst the haze of overwhelm that surrounds them.

Step Up Tutoring is a local program that began in the summer of 2020 to provide free academic and emotional support to elementary students in low-income communities in the LA Unified School District. The students likely couldn’t attend class during the pandemic, and as a result, many have fallen behind academically in math and reading comprehension. Currently, over a hundred students are on the waitlist to be matched with a tutor in the program.
By volunteering two hours a week via Zoom, you would mentor a student for a semester and tutor them in math and English. Not only are you contributing to a community in need, you are also providing an opportunity for social, emotional, and academic support to a student that wants to learn and succeed in school. The Environmental Nature Center is looking for responsible high school students that love nature and working with children to be a part of the Leader in Training (LIT) program.
What is a Leader in Training? “LITs” are amazing high school students that help with Nature Camps. This is a perfect opportunity for volunteers who enjoy working with children.
Why? Get outside and away from screens for a few hours a day! Get some exercise, fresh air, and some sun! Spend time with your peers and gain experience and responsibility supervising young children. It provides an excellent experience to include on a resume or college application.
What about COVID? The health and safety of our campers, staff, and volunteers is and always has been of utmost importance to the ENC. To ensure the well-being of all, we have transitioned to modified camp protocols aligned with best health practices.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, providing crucial support services that are vital to the hospital and the well-being of its patients. Every day, willing volunteers donate their time and energy so that St. Jude can fulfill its mission of finding cures and providing care.
Filling a wide variety of roles throughout the hospital, the impact of volunteers extends beyond the immediate needs they meet. Whether they are playing games with children, serving tasty treats in the Kay Kafe or giving parents a much-needed break, their generosity leaves a lasting impression on all those they serve.
The upcoming annual St. Jude walk/run event is in September and they welcome students to register and apply for it.

Hoag's Jr. Auxiliary/Candystriper volunteer program is currently on hold. They are not taking applications at this time. If you are interested in the Jr. Auxiliary program, please check back on this website May 2021 for the next time they will be taking applications.
Hoag’s Junior Auxiliary/Candystriper Program consists of 150 local high school students between the ages of 15-18 from 25-30 schools who volunteer their time to assist patients, staff and the hospital.

Requirements
- Freshman, sophomores or juniors between the ages of 15-18 (Sorry, no seniors.)
- Must be able to volunteer BOTH weekday evenings (4 p.m.- 7 p.m.) and weekends (times vary).
- Live within a reasonable commuting distance of the hospital
- Caring, friendly and cheerful attitude
- Demonstration of responsible and professional behavior
- Ability to honor confidentiality laws and infection control and safety regulations
- Attendance at monthly meetings at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach
- Annual health screening questionnaire/TB testing
- Annual flu vaccine (or wear a mask during flu season if you choose to decline the vaccine)
- Background check (as appropriate)
- Attendance at the new volunteer orientation & annual training meetings
- Commitment of one year of service (We do not have a short term, summer programs, physician shadowing, nor internships.)
- Commitment to volunteer at least 12 hours per month (3 hour shifts)
- Must be able to volunteer at both Newport & Irvine hospitals. (Depends on the volunteer openings at each hospital.)

Duties May Include

The Newport Beach Public Library Children’s Department offers a variety of volunteer positions to provide young adults with an opportunity to learn valuable work-life skills and give back to their community. All youth volunteers must be in 7th through 12th grade and age 12 to 18 years old. Volunteer spots are limited and vary depending on library needs and availability.
We encourage teen volunteers to complete their own application, submit it to the library, and take the leading role in communicating with the library staff.
Volunteers must commit to 20 hours of service per year and must attend volunteer training before starting their assignment. All volunteers ages 15 and up are required to complete fingerprinting and a background check. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement into the program.
To apply for Teen Volunteer opportunities, fill out the online application. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served and as needed basis.

Priceless Pet Rescue has four adoption centers spanning three counties in southern CA, including the Orphanage-Costa Mesa. They are committed to saving the lives of animals in high-risk situations throughout Southern California and beyond. They are a nonprofit organization and depend almost entirely on volunteers and donations. They have saved approximately 10,000 animals to date. The involvement of Orange County residents is crucial to their mission of "saving one by one until there are none." To earn volunteer hours you can Go to the Priceless Pet Rescue webpage.
